Stolen from It Never Rains in College Park.
The facade of Memorial Stadium had a simple inscription. "Time will not dim the glory of their deeds." That applied to our veterans and our sports heroes.
The entire inscription is copied below:

TIME WILL NOT DIM THE GLORY OF THEIR DEEDS
Beat that memorial. The most famous phrase, "Time will not dim the glory of their deeds", is now on display on Eutaw Street between Camden Yards and M&T Bank Stadium.

yes, very stolen, but i don't mind (not just because i stole it off youtube) because i think it's something that especially people my age don't understand in a tangible way. all we have are the words of older folk and history itself to tell us what was.

I don't care what state your from or what team you cheer for, all try fans of sports have fond memories of growing up and getting older with their teams of choice. it is a sad day to watch your favorite stadiums come and go...for me, being from michigan, i have watched the rise and fall of Olympia Stadium, (red wings areana), Pontiac Silverdome, (lions and pistons played there), Cobo Arena, (pistons home stadium), and tiger stadium. I loved going there, buying peanuts on the streets before the game, the smell...everyting that goes along with it. Fond memories that last a life time and memories of the players that saw their glory rise and fall in those stadiums...I cherish the moments and memories.
Maryland won one of the few Cherry Bowl games played at the Silverdome. I saw the trophy last night when I was at Comcast Center. It's literally a bronzed bowl of cherries. Probably the ugliest trophy I've ever seen. And it's right next to both of our national championship trophies for competitive cheerleading.
"We're the Maryland Terrapins, and we'll do ANYTHING to raise our Sears Cup standings!"
I might be a little older than the average ECB reader (do I have to retire from the blogosphere when I turn 30 later this year?) so I remember watching tons of games at Memorial Stadium.
Chanting Ed-die, Ed-die.
Buying peanuts.
Sneaking into better seats.
Getting tired and cranky by the sixth inning.
Getting autographs after the game.
Waiting for my Dad to pick my brother and I up next to the hair salon with a mailbox out front that had bullet holes in it.
0-21.
Orioles Magic.
1989: "Fuck Face"
1989: "Why Not?"
The final series (Tigers, I think).
The final game.
Leaving the stadium for the final time.
And then the first game at Camden Yards.
Then somewhere along the way, Peter Angelos came along and ruined everything. Even still, I love the Orioles. Go O's (and fuck you, Peter)!
No love for the Stallions in the tags?
My bad on the Stallions/Baltimore CFL Colts and the Bowie BaySox.
The thing I remember the most about Memorial Stadium is that the concourses were flecked with mica, so they literally sparkled. That and the obstructed views caused by the pillars that supported the upper deck.
Tomato patch.
The last weekend series of 1989 for the "Why Not?" Orioles was against the Blue Jays. Jamie Quirk Ole's a Greg Olsen curve ball to lose on Friday night. Frank Robinson lets Mark Williamson blow the Saturday game. Why must all the pain be relived!!?!
