As reported here, Ryan Perrilloux is the latest in a seemingly endless string of athletes, especially football players, involved in an "incident" at a nightclub. How many cases like Darrent Williams does it take? How many Pacman Jones suspensions? Ray Lewis found himself in a courtroom. I'm not saying I know what happened or even that they were at fault, but it should be clear at this point that going to nightclubs is ill-advised. What happened to a good old-fashioned frat party? When was the last time you heard about a football player being arrested or suspended for an incident with a frat boy? Or even at a bar?
Picture this: You're the second-string QB on a top 5 team, and will probably start next year. You will almost certainly be drafted. You have already been involved in 2 separate "incidents" with the law and you're under 21. You have a bye week and get an evening out. Your choices: a nightclub where literally anything can happen including your future disappearing or your life ending, or pretty much anything else. Maybe Decision-Making 101 should be a required class.
Are athletes really this stupid or is the allure of the nightclub that overpowering? Ever wonder why there are so many good athletes that never make the pros or why great athletes don't always set the records? Common sense and a little hard work. Ever hear about Jerry Rice at a nightclub? All I remember is hearing how hard his offseason workout program was. What will it take for young players to learn from their elders?

I think it's asking too much that 100% of athletes please act appropriately. There are all kinds of people, and many people make bad decisions. It's possible Perrilloux is just an idiot and cannot learn from his own mistakes, let alone others' mistakes.
As for your frat party question, Marlin Jackson hit a kid in the head with a glass bottle at a frat party or house party. The kid needed stiches. Somehow, Marlin managed to avoid a suspension I think...(I believe the charges were dropped, so I guess technically he's innocent, as he had claimed).
But Perrilloux better get his act together. I've had him sitting on my fantasy bench all year with the expectation that he would give Pat White a run for the starting job next year.
I give a lot of credit to Les Miles for benching Perrilloux and the LB, Odom. This is a huge game for LSU (they all are) because of the Nick Saban implications. You know there are some well-heeling LSU alumni thinking "It's just boys being boys Les! Let 'em play!" It takes balls to self-discipline the team instead of hiding behind the "we're investigating the matter and hoping you forget about it in a couple weeks" line a lot of coaches use.
First of all, he hasn't officially suspended them for the game, though it seems unlikely that they will play.
Secondly, Perrilloux is the backup QB and some people think Miles makes it harder on himself by inserting Perrilloux as though he had Leak and Tebow.
Your point is still valid, but honestly, if LSU loses, it won't be because they're missing Perrilloux.
I did note Miles' ambiguous language. They're not "practicing" this week. "We're prepared to play without them."
In other news, June Jones at Hawaii cut their backup RB, Cox, for an undisclosed reason.
With regard to Perrilloux, from what I've seen Miles inserts him when the starter (Lynch?) is ineffective, as he often is.
Apparently basketball players struggle too. Nevada kicked the guy off the team who was beaten at a party where people had been shot. The coach said he specifically told the player not to go out that night.
Matt Flynn.
And as long as he has someone else who can run the option to spell Flynn, I don't think they'll notice much of a difference.
Maybe the third and fourth stringer can't pitch the ball, I don't know.
I don't like Saban, but I'm rooting for Bama. I'm sick of the love for LSU. It's totally undeserved.
I'm rooting for LSU because it pisses off USC fans. Kick 'em when they're down, I always say.
Plus, even if ell-ess-ewe fans are the most annoying non-Bostonian human beings on the planet, they do have an admirable dedication to their team.
On the off chance that Michael, a USC grad, reads these comments: USC has won one national championship in football since 1978, the same number as BYU.
And where can I sign up for a Decision Making 101 class?
It seems J-Red has forgotten how to count. I guess that's Maryland public schools for you!
Update: Odom and some walk-on were charged with misdemeanors and kicked off the team (they smashed some car windows).
Perrilloux is not being charged with anything and is clearly just an innocent bystander.
Les says he won't play because he missed so much practice.
Les, gimme a break. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
