Week 10 CFB Picks

So clearly the sports gods have not smiled on me lately, but I am not dissuaded and will continue to charge recklessly to my demise, by picking road teams this week.

Virginia Tech (+2.5) over GEORGIA TECH - The "No Offense Bowl" goes to Beamer Ball, since their defense and special teams can score on their own. GT's star running back Choice is out, and so are GT's chances.

Maryland (+2) over NORTH CAROLINA - This may be the last year the Terps can squeak past an improving UNC team.

South Carolina (+4.5) over ARKANSAS - Spurrier has a stout defense, which will stuff the Arkansas run.

Navy (+3.5) over NOTRE DAME - So Navy lost to Delaware last week. They still put up 52 points. Can ND put up enough points to compete with one of the top offenses in the NCAA? I think Navy's defense gets healthy enough against the SUCK that is the ND offense.

Lsu (-7) over ALABAMA - The LSU defense pounds Alabama just like the FSU defense did.

Ucla (-2.5) over ARIZONA - UCLA is much better.

Arizona State (+7) over OREGON - Not saying they'll win, just expecting a close game. I really shouldn't pick this game since I haven't seen either team play a half yet.

Illinois (-11.5) over MINNESOTA - This is like taking candy from a baby.

And the late game for the East Coast, my only home team pick,
BOSTON COLLEGE (-6.5) over Florida State - FSU has no offense.

Last Week: 3-7-1
Season: 29-36-2

As the Junkies have done, we're going to change the name of this blog to "Always Bet Against Russell".

Dont you know by now not to touch ANY UCLA line with a 40 foot pole? Yes, this a team that beat Cal. But it also is a team that got blown out at home by a Notre Dame team that previously had not scored a touchdown all season. And this also is a team that lost 44-6 to Utah. Buyer beware.

It truly is gambling when you can't even figure out why you're taking a team.

What's your take on Oregon-ASU? Feels like an Oregon blowout, but Dennis Erickson is a wild card.

I think the Michigan line should have been a staple of this feature, considering the Michigan audience you have. Oh well.

Sparty beats the spread, whatever it is.

You haven't seen ASU or Oregon play? What East Coast Bias! I am the West Coast Bias. Want to exchange links?

Last weekend was really the first I've seen of either team. I watched about a quarter of the Oregon-USC game, and less of the ASU-Cal game since it was "joined in progress" at midnight... The only other game televised on the East Coast for either team was Colorado-ASU way back in week 2 or so, which I didn't think was important at the time.

The Cal-Oregon game was superseded in Atlanta by GT-Clemson and in Maryland by Maryland-Rutgers.

West Coast Bias? What's that?

Ben, rest assured I will pick at least one more Michigan game this year. I just didn't think Sparty (+4) was a great choice. My record with the Big 10 (except Ohio St.) is absolutely terrible.

I dont understand ASU either. I dont know how the heck the beat Cal last week. I watched it and I still dont know. (Yes, 7:15 Pacific Time kickoff.) As for Oregon, they are filthy...if they can somehow get into the BCS title game, they will win it.

As for the ASU/Oregon game...I will take ASU (+7.5, keeping it close...but like Oregon to win) and the over (60.5). I take the over because it is going ot be 62 and sunny Saturday in Eugene...which is about as shocking as east coasters actually paying attention. Eugene gets 9 inches of rain in November, and it usually will be around 50. Being sunny and warm, I like a high schoring game

I haven't watched ASU, but their QB is hurting and their main RB is out for the year. He was out for the Cal game, too, it's true. I still think Oregon wins by double digits.

Oregon will still have two more tough games, but they should win out. I think the other teams get out of their way somehow. I can see a 1-loss Oklahoma really bitching if Oregon gets in over them, but the Ducks deserve it more.

It's not like Oklahoma has ever had reason to bitch about Oregon before...
